Cookery Books

‘Fish, to taste right, must swim three times – in water, in butter and in wine.’ – Polish proverb.

Cooking is an art – it’s one of the most clichéd statements; cooking is not just an art, it is a culmination of one’s creativity, love, interest and sense of taste. The way a cook plays with the spices in whipping up a fine spread is an important part that renders taste to the food. Come to think of it, the way a dish appeals to our eyes is quite a determining factor as to whether we will choose to taste the food or not; thus garnishing is an integral part of cooking too.

Cooking can be of various types like baking, roasting, frying, steaming, boiling, and grilling. Each of these methods renders a distinct quality and flavor to the food. Cooking can be classified not just by the various types but also by various kinds – Mediterranean cuisine, Italian, French, Chinese, Japanese and India  itself has so many varied kinds of cuisine like the Malabar cuisine, Chettinad, Punjabi, Costal cuisine etc. One of the key factors which set each of these cuisines apart from each other is the predominant use of the regional spice and herbs.

A cook must ensure that each meal that is prepared in their kitchen is not just flavorful but also takes care of the health factor. In these days of stressed life, food can play an important role in beating the stress and fatigue. Cooking should be such that the ingredients do not lose their nutrients. In fact in a recent research it was found that charring caused by burning meat or fish while cooking, might lead to cancer.

It is the dream of many people to prepare that great meal for family, friends and colleagues. But they need a book that will teach them the best recipes possible in ways that are easy to prepare. These books not only have to be informative, but they also have to explain difficult cooking techniques in an easy manner.
